Fundación TECNALIA Research & Innovation (TECNALIA) is the leading private and independent research and technology entity in Spain and the fifth largest in Europe, employing 1336 people (198 of whom are PhD holders) and with income of 102 Million € in 2013. TECNALIA operates in all the fields of today and tomorrow’s industry: Industry and Transport, Information and Communication Technologies, Building, Energy and Environment, Innovation Systems and Health and Quality of Life. TECNALIA was very active in FP7, participating in 377 projects and coordinating 81 of them and it is very active in H2020, participating in 48 projects and coordinating 6 of them. In the field of Intellectual Property Rights, TECNALIA has 29 patents pending in 2014, 58 patents granted and 5 patents licensed, with a return of 3,2M€ per year.
TECNALIA created in 2012 TECNALIA VENTURES, an independent TTO (Technology Transfer office) designed for exploitation and transfer of research results. TECNALIA has created 30 spin-off companies of different levels of maturity and development (until the end of 2013) and has managed for a group of sponsors a Venture-Capital fund. TECNALIA participates in different platforms and associations related to the IZADI-NANO2INDUSTRY project: in the High Level Group of European Technological Platform for Researching in Manufacturing (ManuFuture), coordinating the multi-annual workplan for the “Factories of the Future” JTI/PPP; in the core group of the “Sustainable Process Industry through Resource and Energy Efficiency”- SPIRE PPP; in the Executive Board of the ETP on Industrial Safety (ETPIS); in the core group of the Spanish Platform for advanced materials and nanomaterials (MATERPLAT); in the Steering Committee of the European technological platform for MATerials (EUMAT); in the working group of the Nanotechnologies for Medical Applications European Platform (NanoMedicine) and European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP).
IZADI-NANO2INDUSTRY project will be developed mainly in the Industry and Transport Division. This division is focused on the design, manufacturing, maintenance and end-of-life of industrial products and services, for the
improvement of its clients’ competitiveness in the following strategic sectors: foundry and steelmaking, machine-tool, automotive, aerospace, aeronautics, railway, construction, de-manufacturing and food industry. Specifically, the project will be developed jointly by the following areas:

The Lightweight group with a strong expertise in the field of composite materials mainly oriented to thermoplastic technologies: injection, extrusion, compression and, since the last six years, in the industrialization of the polymerization and molding process of anionic PA6.
The foundry and steel making area with a large experience in the design of new alloys and steel grades with improved properties and in the modelling and development of processes of steel manufacturing and foundry for improving the product quality/properties and reducing costs, time and environmental impact. This area is participating in the EFEVE project and in other projects related to the application of the nanotechnologies to metallic components.
The group of thermal spray technologies that has more than 25 years of experience in the field, focusing its activity in the development of spray equipment, process technology, and industrial applications. A pilot plant with different techniques, most of them build in-house, (plasma spray, HVOF –HVAF spray, HFPD Detonation spray and cold spray) is available with auxiliary equipment to allow the deposition processes on real industrial components. Different spin-off companies (IONTECH, AEROSTAR, TURBODETCO) have been created from the group for the commercial exploitation of the products and services. The 3instrumentation, process control and optimization area that provides a large experience in monitoring and development of process control systems.
The innovation strategies area that provides the business perspective in terms of commercial feasibility and business opportunity of the technological developments within TECNALIA. This team analyses the market size (Mn€), the value chain and entry strategy, the value proposition and the more suitable business model for new technological developments. This is detailed in a final exploitation plan.
